How long does a divorce take in Ohio?

In Ohio, a divorce typically takes about 12 months if there are no children and about 18 months if there are children, based on the court’s case-management time standards under Sup. R. 39. These are guidelines, not guarantees. A divorce can take longer if the case is contested, involves custody or property disputes, requires extensive discovery, or results in post-decree motions or an appeal.

What do you charge for a divorce in Ohio?

The cost of divorce in Ohio depends on the facts of your case, but I generally require a $3,000 retainer and charge $300 per hour. The total cost of an Ohio divorce can increase significantly if there are disputes over child custody, property division, support, discovery, motions, or trial. Because every case is different, I cannot guarantee divorce costs, and the final amount will depend entirely on the facts, the parties and counsel, and how contested the case becomes.
